A new motion picture, The Promise, is a deeply moving cinematic experience about the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1922.
Between 1915 and 1922, the Ottoman Turks attempted to erase the Armenian people from the Earth.
They succeeded in killing 1.5 million men, women, and children. It was the first time anyone used the word genocide, although few people are fully aware of this atrocity.
It is not taught in schools and is rarely discussed outside of the Armenian community.
More than 100 years later, the Turkish government continues to claim the genocide never happened.
It is believed that attempts to conceal and deny the Armenian Genocide contributed to future genocides, in particular the Holocaust.
We owe it not only to the descendents of the Armenian Genocide, but all people who are vulnerable, to learn about and learn from our history.
Synopsis
Empires fall, love survives.
When Michael (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant medical student, meets Ana (Charlotte Le Bon), their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between Michael and Ana’s boyfriend Chris (Christian Bale), a famous American photojournalist dedicated to exposing political truth.
As the Ottoman Empire crumbles into war-torn chaos, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to get their people to safety and survive themselves.
The Promise is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Terry George.

I am excited to announce the release of The Promise, a story of the Armenian Genocide at the outset of World War I.
What happened in Armenia was awful. It was wrong.
Let’s #KeepthePromise to never forget and to promote human rights wherever we are & however we can.
Like our belief about #HIV & #endingAIDS, no one should be left behind.
In this spirit of championing human rights, all of the film’s proceeds will be donated to charity.
I thank you so much for your support, & hope that you too vow to Keep the Promise. #EJAF25

My good friend Chris Cornell wrote this beautiful song called “The Promise” for the film by the same name.
I got a chance to work on this film with the producers and Chris and do my own ending credits piece, a cover of an old Armenian song called “Sari Siroun Yar” which will be released on the soundtrack later this year.
