MAFI MAFI, the contemporary fashion brand founded by Ethiopian designer Mahlet Afework, made waves during its recent debut in Milan. This occasion, part of the official calendar of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, showcased an exclusive dialogue between two complementary collections: Haset and Zellan.
A Unique Dialogue of Collections
The event, hosted at the Accademia del Lusso, illustrated the essence of the MAFI MAFI woman - a balance of softness and strength, intimacy and identity, minimalism and structure.

Haset: Named after the Amharic word for “happiness,” this collection embodies lightness, quiet confidence, and comfort. Featuring fluid lines and relaxed silhouettes, Haset showcases subtle sporty touches in a palette of off-white, warm yellows, black, and soft green and blue tones. These pieces are designed for everyday movement and emotional optimism, perfect for the modern woman.
Zellan: Inspired by the Afar people of Ethiopia, Zellan presents a bolder, more visually striking presence. Defined by geometric patterns and graphic contrasts, think black and pink, black and white, and deep blues, this collection evokes resilience, clarity, and a strong cultural identity.

When presented together, Haset and Zellan capture the full complexity of the MAFI MAFI woman: soft yet powerful, grounded yet ready to navigate the world with confidence.
Crafting a Modern Narrative
MAFI MAFI's commitment to craftsmanship is evident in its use of handwoven Ethiopian textiles, crafted in collaboration with local artisans. By transforming tradition into a modern, globally relevant language, the brand not only preserves heritage techniques but also creates sustainable employment opportunities, supporting local manufacturing.
