Art Brussels 2026, held from April 23 to 26, exemplified a new model for contemporary art fairs that goes beyond mere transactions. This 42nd edition emphasized the essential roles of engagement, discovery, and community within the art world. With 25,969 visitors, it reaffirmed Brussels' position as a vital hub for collectors, curators, and art professionals.

This year’s fair featured 139 galleries from 26 countries, organized into five thoughtfully curated sections - Prime, Solo, ’68 Forward, Discovery, and the newly introduced Horizons. Horizons, curated by Devrim Bayar, showcased large-scale works in a museum-quality setting, challenging traditional booth formats and highlighting the fair's commitment to artistic exploration and innovation.

Art fairs serve as platforms for fostering connections between emerging and established artists, allowing for meaningful dialogue and collaborative opportunities. This belief is evident in the strong solo presentations and the continued relevance of the ’68 Forward section, which celebrates practices that have shaped contemporary art.

Brussels in late April provides a rich cultural backdrop, with a vibrant food scene and stunning architecture enhancing the overall experience. The strong off-programme, including gallery nights and institutional exhibitions, further contributed to the dynamic atmosphere, reinforcing the idea that art fairs are about community engagement as much as they are about commerce.

Art Brussels 2026 also reported robust sales, with galleries achieving strong transactions across various price points, demonstrating market resilience while emphasizing the importance of building relationships. The fair's prize programme recognized emerging voices, facilitating museum acquisitions that bridge historical and contemporary practices, underscoring art fairs' role in nurturing the future of art.

Looking ahead to the next edition, scheduled for April 15-18, 2027, Art Brussels is set to continue its evolution as a leading platform for contemporary art, balancing market strength with curatorial ambition and a commitment to fostering artistic dialogue.
